LOOKING BACK, LOOKING AHEAD

JULY

  • On the 1st, Eric Lebrasseur ran the Utsukushigahara 80K Trail Run in 8:48:42, placing 45th.
  • Then on the 2nd, Padraig MacColgain finished his first ultra, the Nikko 100K, in 12:13:51, well done! This is turning into an ultra club.
  • Meanwhile, Yuki Fukushima was down in Oz land running the Gold Coast Marathon, which he completed in an impressive 2:51:51, coming in 30th.
  • Bob Johnston was back racing again on the 8th, running the Higashine Cherries Half Marathon in 1:32:22.
  • Across the Pacific in Costa Rica, Arturo Delgado ran a local marathon in 3:27:45, with two bruised ribs. And from there across the Atlantic to England, Jon Morrell toured the Scafell Pike Trail Marathon (27 miles, 1800m) in 5:16:10, which was “bloody hard.”
  • The always fun, always hot Obuse Mini Marathon (Half) saw Chika Kanai place 5th, Bob Johnston run 1:33:52, Nick Coyle run 1:36:09 for a PB in the heat!, and Terry Minegishi run 1:43. Also enjoying the run and festivities afterwards were Yuichi Kanamori, Yasuo Hayakawa, Gareth & Rika Evans, Naoko Hanakawa and Geraldine Nogami.
  • Harrisson Uk ran the Mt. Taisesu Trail Journey 40K race in Hokkaido on the 23rd, finishing 2nd in his age group and 10th overall. Celine Bouny ran the 15K race.
  • The Fuji Mountain Race was held on the 29th. Eric Lebrasseur and Yuichi Kanamori ran all the way up (21km, 2,783m up!) in 3:30:40 (9min PB) and 3:40:57, (27min PB). Rie Onodera got up to the 9th station in 4:34, but got stopped due to the time limit.
  • Also on the 29th, Mary Eckstein ran a 10K race in Hong Kong, I presume, recording her fastest time in 10 years – 48:34!

AUGUST

  • 2 – 1000 x 6
  • 9 – 1200, 1200, 1000, 1000, 800, 800
  • 16 – A Group: 1200, 1000 x 2, 800 x 3, 400. B Group: 1200, 1000 x 2, 800 x 2, 400
  • 23 – 1000 x 4, 800 x 2, 400
  • 30 – 5,000m time trial

HAIKU OF THE MONTH

No sense complaining.

The sun is oblivious.
