July 20th, Oxford, England. The hallowed Iffley Road track where Roger Bannister first broke the 4-minute mile. The British Milers Club 50th anniversary Grand Prix series of races.
This was the scene where Mike Trees, former pro triathlete in Japan and British duathlon champion, now living in Reading, England, accomplished his goal of breaking the British 50-54 mile record.
At the start of the year, the record stood at 4:46.51 (John Telford 2009). It was smashed by Guy Bracken on June 19, who ran 4:37.2. Mike succeeded in taking a further 5 seconds off it, with an official time of 4:32:05.
His next challenge will be the World Masters Games 1,500m in Turin, Italy in August.
