• Several club members traveled to Hokkaido for the hilly Hakodate Marathon. Kota Torii came away with a new PB of 3:14:44. Well done! He was followed by Tony Collins 3:27:40 (24th AG), Rika Homma 3:34 off very little training, Max Streeter 3:40 and Gareth Evans 4:08 due to not much training.
• Rie Onodera did the 30K Kita Tanzawa Adventure Race, finishing in 6:41:41. It was rainy, muddy, hilly…a tough race.
• Also on the 7th, Yuki Fukushima was down in Australia for the Gold Coast Marathon, where he ran a fast 2:44:02, finishing 102nd out of 5,769. Congratulations!
• July has been surprisingly cool this year, so I suppose the Obuse Half on the 14th was not as brutally hot as usual. Andrew Farmer took advantage of that, and ran a big PB of 1:36:20. Nick Coyle, Ash Harvey, Chika Kanai (4th in AG) and Faith Geraghty were also there.
• The Fuji Tozan (Mt. Fuji Climb) race was shortened to 15k instead of 21k due to bad weather. That’s still a lot of uphill!! Eric Lebrasseur led the Nambanners with a time of 1:51:03. Also puffing their way up were Yuichi Kanamori 1:57:40, Olivier Magritte 2:19:07, Yuki Seshimo 2:13, Rie Onodera 2:20:19, and Yoko Kubo 2:37:45
• Kota Torii ran a 5,000m track race at Kushigaya and set a new PB of 18:22!
• And on the 28th, in California, Pat Higase ran the San Francisco Half Marathon in 1:56:50. They have two halfs, this was the less hillier one, although still hilly! She has also run the full marathon there, so if you’re interested in a San Fran race, talk to Pat!
