• The Tachikawa Half Marathon was on the 3rd, and Stan Chow, prepping for Boston, ran a good PB in 1:23:58.
• Five Nambanners traveled to Kansai on the 10th for the Kyoto Marathon. Raymond Wong led them home in 3:03:37, followed by Bernard Plagge in 3:13:52, Mary Eckstein in 4:01 and Yukari Murabara in 4:10. The weather was strange: warm at first, turning to cold rain in the later stages.
• Also on the 10th, Juergen Wittstock was in Sihanoukville, Cambodia and ran a hot and humid half marathon in 1:36:07.
• Three Namban ultramarathoners took the two hour boat ride from Tokyo to Izu Oshima for a hilly 100km race. Don Roxburgh, in his second attempt at the race, got it right this time as he finished in 10:05:50, good for 11th place (8th male). Eric Lebrasseur, in his first ultramarathon, came in at 11:51:24 (34th male). His partner Yuki Seshimo, running in the 58km race, had a great result, finishing in 6:02 as the first female!
• The Sakura Kenko (Health) Marathon in Chiba prefecture was held on the 24th, with four club members participating. Teriyuki Minegishi recorded a 3:17, Chika Kanai 3:20 (8th in age group), Hiroyuki Terada 3:31 and Derek Leong 3:53. With hills at the start, 15k and end, the course featured views of rice paddies and the aroma of cows.
