• Kota Torii was at the Gunma Marathon on the 3rd, where he set a new PB of 3:13:45. Kim Dumont was also there and ran the 10K.
• Also on the 3rd, Yoann Potiron ran the Kiokawa 5K in a new PB of 17:40 despite two big hills.
• But the big one on that day was the New York City Marathon. Several Nambanners enjoyed the iconic (but tough) course and perfect weather (10C/49F, 50%). Yuta Suda 2:37:27, Yuki Fukushima 3:12:26, Faith Geraghty 3:14:35, Rika Homma 3:28:02, Yaeko Kubota 3:57:33. Also Jon and Tamami Holmes and Kim Man Li, plus Robin Kietlinski and Dan Hewins cheering. BTW, Faith was 57th out of 3,587(!) women in the 40-44 AG.
• Over in Germany, Dennis Büchner ran the Hitzacker 10K trial race on a very tough course and finished in 43:06, 1st in his age group.
• Another big marathon was on the 10th — Yokohama. Sylvian Dufros liked the nice weather and ran to a PB of 3:19:15. Also: Carter Dunstall 3:56:54 and Ken Pechter 3:58:50.
• At the Setagaya 246 Half Marathon on the 10th, Emmanuel Obser set his second Half PB of the year with a 1:23:38. placing 15th in the 40-59 AG (discrimination against 50-year-olds!).
• Jeff Louckes ran the Kobe Marathon with his wife Lesa at an easy pace (4:15) as she was coming back from an injury. He says it’s a flat course, good for a PB.
• Down in Australia on the 14th, Chris Winter ran in the Victoria 5000m Championships. His time was 16:33, the fastest since he moved back to Melbourne.
• Unfortunately, the Toda Half Marathon was cancelled due to the aftereffects of the typhoon, but there were several marathons on the 23rd and 24th.
• At Otawara, the weather was bad – cold and rain. Nevertheless, Stan Chow ran 2:54:46 as a training run! Others were Terry Minegishi 3:33:53, Padraig MacColgain 3:37:24, Rie Onodera 3:40:56, Satoshi Hashimoto, Mike Rayner, Marco Magnani, Hang Yu, Mark Van Wouw, Marcus Kosins and SeungGi Hong.
• At Tsukuba, two went sub-3: Renaud Isman 2:57:22, and Yoann Potiron 2:58:25. Rika Homma smashed her PB with a 3:08:39, qualifying for next year’s Osaka International Women’s Marathon. Also running were Yasuo Hayakawa 3:50:33, Mika Kume 4:15, Glenn Rubin, Nguyen Kien Quoc, Yuko Takamuki, Yumiko Kato and Yoko Kubo.
• At Mt. Fuji, Mark Shrosbree ran 3:18 (bad knee) and Yaeko Kubota went sub-5:00. David Murakami Wood also ran.
• And finally, Yuki Fukushima ran 35:18 at the Meguro City Run 10K.
